Pest control licensing in Queensland

In short: In Queensland, pest management technicians need a pest management licence from Queensland Health under the Medicines and Poisons Act 2019. The licence lists what the holder is authorised to do, such as urban pests or timber pests. Chemical termite work also needs a Termite Management—Chemical licence from the QBCC.

Queensland Health pest management licence

Under the Medicines and Poisons Act 2019 and the Medicines and Poisons (Pest Management Activities) Regulation 2021, a person carrying out pest management activities needs a pest management licence issued by Queensland Health. The licence shows what the holder is authorised to treat. Authorisations include urban pests, timber pests, pest birds, work in high-risk or sensitive places, and fumigation.

Queensland Health's licensing team can be contacted on 07 3328 9310 or at licensing@health.qld.gov.au.

Termite work also needs a QBCC licence

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) says a Termite Management—Chemical licence is needed for chemical termite management work of any value, and that the holder must also hold a Queensland Health pest management licence. QBCC termite management licences (chemical or physical) also cover giving termite inspection reports and advice.

How to check before you book

  1. Ask for the technician's Queensland Health pest management licence and check it covers your job, such as timber pests for termites.
  2. For termite inspections, reports or chemical treatment, ask for the business's QBCC licence number too.
  3. Ask for a written quote and treatment plan.
  4. If you're unsure, contact Queensland Health or the QBCC.

Questions to ask before you book

  • What licence (and endorsement or authorisation) do you hold for this job, and can I see it?
  • Are you insured for public liability and professional indemnity?
  • Can I have a written quote that includes your licence details and ABN?
  • Which chemicals will you use, why, and how will they be applied?
  • Do we need to leave, close windows or move pets, and when can we go back in?
  • Will I get a written report or treatment record afterwards?

How this referral service fits in

Rockhampton Pest Quotes is a referral service run by Raf Web Studio. We don't hold a pest management licence because we don't carry out pest control. We only pass your request to an operator who holds the licence your job needs, and that operator is responsible for the work. Please still check their licence yourself.
